If I want to be able to use my cell phone in most foreign countries, should I choose Cingular (GSM) over Verizon (CDMA)?

3 dwdrums2032, regarding your answer "Yeah most countries are using GSM technology. ": Just a nitpick, but PCS isn't a cellular technology like GSM/CDMA, it refers to the 1900 MHz radio band. GSM and CDMA can both operate in the PCS band.

Your typical CDMA Verizon phone won't work internationally as you stated, but they do offer international service. Sounds like you can rent a phone or buy a GSM phone through verizon that will work overseas. If you are getting a discount through work, I would chose Verizon hands down.

Verizon does have a more extensive network here in the US, and it is so much more reliable than Cingular's. Even if you buy Cingular service, your phone will not work overseas with prepaid SIM cards. The phone is locked for Cingular's network only, so you would have to get the phone unlocked to use another carriers SIM, or pay the ridiculous roaming charges for international calling.

One suggestion for you... Go with what works best here at home (Verizon), and buy an unlocked GSM phone on ebay for travel. This way you can go the prepaid SIM card route and save yourself a lot of money! You can find older GSM phones on ebay for real cheap!

Hope these suggestions help.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
