If it works in Scandinavia or Japan, will it work in the U.S.? A lot of people point to models in government, business, or social norms that work, or are highly successful in other countries and cultures -- usually the Scandinavian countries, Canada, etc. They seem to believe it would work if the U.S. did something similar. I say no usually because we are a different people and many of us exploit or pervert the spirit of anything good that might work for us. No. Both Scandinavian countries and Japan have monocultures, which means everyone agrees on key stuff. Here in the U.S., with immigrants from (literally) everywhere, we don't even all speak the same language.
The rest follows, and that we haven't been scattered to the four winds like the other Tower of Babel is somewhat miraculous. But much of our cultural and political stress is exactly that we have so many citizens from so many different places, and not until the third generation are they really "American. " .
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
