If many founding fathers were deist, why does the Declaration mention a "Creator" as the Christian faith?

Yes, most of the people who signed the declaration of independence where predominately Christian, But the most important and influential ones where Deists or at least very skeptic about religion. And they all agreed that separation of church and state was vital aspect of American democracy, integral defining part of it. That is why these Christian men founded one of the first secular democratic nations in the world.

It should be a matter of pride for you as an American.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
