If mitochondria malfunction,what posible organelle can replaced it? chloroplast?

The chloroplast could provide a limited amount of ATP but those tissues that lack chloroplasts (the entire root system) would not be able to get enough energy to stay alive. In most situations in which the function of the mitochondria is impaired, the organism dies!
