If our universe is expanding as a consequence of the Big Bang, what is it expanding into?

The concept of alternate universes seemed to be a really preposterous idea when I first heard of it. I was thinking that the physicist who came up with it must have had one too many.

But when I seriously thought about Schrodinger's Cat and its implications,and the thought experiment actually did not fully explore the absurdity of the whole situation, the many universes theory actually becomes the logical solution.

I'm thinking of doing some hubs about this. Thanks for reminding me. :).

The Entity, called the Universe ... "Exists" in Human Awareness ...

Meaning, The Physical Totality called the Universe Exists "with-In" the Human Mind.

The Universe is neither Static, nor Dynamic ... its neither Expanding, nor Contracting ... it "Is" ... meaning Exists, In, The Ordination ...

In order to understand The Truth ... you have to understand The Law, Stated in Koran, that "Matter" per se, Exists, in the state of the myriads, of Distinct Paired Singularities ... Forms ... That Forms, Constitute the Existential's Totality.

That Forms Exist, in The Ordained Bonding of the Created, Physical, with the Granted, Ideal ... Unto, Human Awareness, of Being ... 'within' God's Granted Human Mind.

That Form, In, The Ordained Manifestation unto Human Awareness ... "Generates" its own Matter, Time, Space, and Energy.

Thus, Form, literally 'creates' the Matter, Time, Space, and Energy that Define it ... thus, Being.

Thus, Form creates the Space, it occupies, in Being ... Meaning, Exists, In our living Awareness.

Isn't it possible every life form on earth is a mini universe in it's own right!

Nature has enough analogies with its many evolving life forms and reproductive systems for use to draw many parallels from them.

Many notable physicist believe that it is possible to have multiple universes in a grander cosmos known as the multi-verse. I've just read the book "The dden Reality" by Brian Greene about that.

The word universe was defined to be "everything we know". But everything we know back then turns out now to be not everything there is as we know today. Therefore we have to come up with a term "multi-verse" to include the universe of "everything that we thought we knew" to something more.

Not only is our universe expanding. But the rate of expansion is getting faster and faster. Until everything is so far apart and so cold that we end in the Big Freeze where all life cease to exists.

Yes our Universe is expanding. The Univese will expand to get larger. The universes expansion is the only thing allowed to travel faster than the speed of light.

Space... The final frountieer... These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise.... Yes, that is exactly where our universe is going, to seak out new life and civilization. To boldly go where no universe has gone before! :D (And yes, I'm proud to be a trekky.).

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
