If slavery is illegal and unconstitutional (even voluntary servitude), then why do we allow?

Because the government has long since decided that they can do whatever they want. We don't get a say in where and when our nation goes to war. But we can certainly find our young men in body bags returning from a place that doesn't even deserve a spot on the map.

Instituting a draft only crystalizes what George Washington once said. The willingness with which future generations will volunteer for war shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the veterans of prior wars were treated. What does it say about a nation when it has to force young people to fight its wars?

Of course, the last couple of administrations have found a loophole. Rather than draft new people, they force those who are at the end of their required service, and want the hell out, to deploy again by instituting stop losses or mandatory extensions. Or, they "call back" men who have been out of service for a couple of years and throw them right back into the mayhem.

This has happened to several of my friends. Were we supposed to read the fine print as wide-eyed patriots of 17 years old? I was once a die-hard patriot.

After four years of active service and two deployments...I'm ready to move to Canada, but I hate the cold.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
