If someone commits purgery, who do you report it to for investigation?

I attended a preliminary hearing where the defendant's sister testified that she had never appeared in court on his behalf before. The plaintiff was present at a hearing where the sister did indeed testify on her brother's behalf, and therefore the sister lied under oath. Who do we contact about seeing that she is investigated for purgery?

Talk to the plaintiff's lawyer I'm no lawyer, but I'd say you should start with the plaintiff's lawyer. If you demonstrate to him that one of the defense's witnesses lied under oath, it'd probably be a useful thing for him to take advantage of. He'd also probably be the person to ask about bringing charges.

Technically, the district attorney would be the person to convince to bring charges up against her, but a small perjury isn't prosecuted that often, especially if it's on a minor fact like whether she'd previously testified before. Presidents aside, I don't believe it's that common for prosecutions of that sort to go forward. It sucks, but district attorneys are pretty busy folks and don't often go after pedantic charges like that.

I suppose you could also speak to the judge in the case, but I'm not sure whether third parties are allowed to do that. I'd ask a lawyer, preferably the plaintiff's lawyer. But be aware that purgery is very common in court and rarely investigated by the prosecutor because of their incredable workload. To the Judge I would think that you would report it to the judge in whose court the perjury occurred. It is my understanding that the judge has authority over everything that happens in his court room and answers only to his superiors.
