If the United States imposed a mandatory 2-year military service requirement upon graduation from high school, what branch would you join?

Well, this takes a lot of imagination, being 51 years old, but I can think of no better place in the service, for me, than army chaplain. Imagine all of these young folks forced to serve in a military against their will and being put in a position to either kill or be killed by an enemy for who you bear no malice. The stress of combat, or of seeing your buddy get his head blown off, or of killing someone, perhaps a child (by accident).

Who would be more in need of a chaplain? And for those men and women who are dying, they need someone to pray with them, someone to help them move from this world to the next. Even non combat personnel in the service need a chaplain.

Someone to lead worship services or counsel them, someone to talk to when they get that letter from home that breaks their heart, a wife or fiance has left them, or perhaps Mom or Dad have died. Yup, Chaplain would be exactly the right place for me.

Air Force. I would become a pilot. I already have 1 lesson down.

Marines, let me win your hearts and minds or I'll burn your damn huts down!

I have already served in the US Navy. I was an advanced electronics technician....not too flashy huh? But if I could do it over, I would have gone to college first, and then enlisted as an officer.

Judge Advocate General!

I'm not a US citizen, but if I was and this was to happen, I would try to get a job in the medical field, because it would remind me of M*A*S*H.

I would join my state Militia. Forced military service is a violation of my Constitutional rights and a null and void law for us law abiding natural born Americans and especially so for those of us who are sworn to defend the Constitution from all enemies both foreign or domestic. Anyone who writes or passes that law has violated the Constitution of these United States and should be tried and hung as a traitor.

The United States is not a military state and forced military service as pretty as it may seem in some light is wrong in any and every case. People should not and in many cases cannot be forced to support war, death and destruction no matter what the justification. The Israeli people have chose that lifestyle by their actions against the people of Palestine and because of their treatment of the Palestinians they must live in fear and forced military.

Americans are free regardless of the socio economic issues that bind us and the only thing worth fighting for is that freedom.

I'm not from US, but if there is such a situation, I would apply to be the army counselor or psychologist, like the job I'm doing now. If I can't be a counselor, then I'll opt to be a medic. I can't imagine having to kill people or throw bombs at people.

I'm a kind of girl who can't think clearly when I;m under threat, but I can focus on other people's needs when they need me, and set aside my personal anxiety. So I better choose the task that allow me to care for other people.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
