I actually started my blog after my HP account. I do keep them separate. I tend to use my blog for more random writing (sometimes even stream of consciousness), or for things that are purely personal that wouldn't be suitable for HubPages.
I would say I use my HP account to grow as a writer, while my blog is there to help me grow as a person.
