I don't drive my car a lot and I know your supposed to get an oil change every 3000 miles. The sticker on my car says I should have gotten an oil change 1 month ago, however, I've only driven the car roughly 1000 miles since my last oil change. Is it okay to wait another month (I will still be under 3000 miles) or is it important to take the car in for an oil change by the specified date, regardless of how many miles you've driven. Don't worry about the date. Wait until you have 3000 miles in. Even the 3000 miles deal is iffy anymore.
Most mechanics (those who don’t make a killing doing oil changes) will tell you that 5000 miles between changes is not a problem at all. In the last twenty years there have been a lot of improvements in both engines and the quality of oil but for some reason a lot of manufacturers have stuck to the old 3000 mile oil change recommendation. Naturally the sticker on your windshield from the place that changes your oil says 3000 miles because they would lose a fortune if everybody waited until they had 5000 miles before changing their oil.
Going back to the main point though, the date on the sticker is just an estimate of when you will reach 3000 miles so if I were you I wouldn’t take the car in for an oil change until I got to 3000 miles. Sources: my experience .
Oil degrades with time, not just mileage. Oil degrades with time, not just mileage. At least that's what the mechanic who writes for the Toronto Star says.

We just had a HUGE discussion over this in my house not too long ago. The sticker on my car says 3,000 miles/3 months. I don't usually drive 3,000 miles in three months, and I think it is a waste of money, but my husband has the oil changed faithfully on our cars by the date on the sticker, no matter how many miles have been driven.
He usually has his changed before the three months because he has driven more than 3,000 miles. I still think it is a waste of money. (But, if it was up to me and I waited until 5,000 miles to change the oil, the engine would probably seize and it would be my fault because I waited to have the oil changed.
That's my luck. ) .
Yes. There are many people who will tell you that the first 3000 miles on a car should be considered the 'break-in' period. During this time, all the moving parts get to wear against each other and knock out all the little burrs and rough edges created during the machining process of fabricating the parts.
During these first 3000 miles, you should probably change your oil at least once to get those bits of metal out of your engine system. It is quite possible that the manufacturer of your car placed a sticker as a reminder to change the oil for this reason. Here are some links to sites discussing the car 'Break-in' concept.
There are those who call it a myth and others who swear by it: wiki.answers.com/Q/How_should_you_'break... mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm able2know.com/forums/about63803.html missico.com/personal/thoughts/make_car_l... There are many more out there, but you should get the idea from these. -n .
No they say its one or the other..however you should go only when the mileage is due it doesn't matter on the date. You have to drive a certain amount of miles to use up the oil..it doesn't get used by just being parked. So I wouldnt worry about it until you reach the mileage..

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
