The people who say Clinton neglect to say that Clinton had a Republican Congress PUSHING him into spending cuts. People talk about Reagan "spending us into oblivion", but they neglect to say that Reagan had a Democratic Congress in control of the purse strings. Reagan HAD to spend money on the military to rebuild it after 4 years of Jimmy Carter.
That very act of Reagan is what allows our military to be the best in the world. Clinton reduced military spending (remember the "peace dividend"?). Bush didn't have a "republican majority" in the Congress until 2002 or 2004.
Remember, the Republicans had to "share power" because it was 50 50 in the Senate until Jumpin' Jim Jeffers went to the Dems, then, all forms of "power sharing" went out the window until the next election. Sure, the repubicans screwed the pooch in regards to spending, they tried to out liberal the democrats and got soundly whipped for their trouble. The thing that utterly amazes me is that they blame Bush for "record deficits", yet pat Obama on the back for continuing to SPEND MORE.
With the healthcare catastrophe alone, I'm shocked that any Democrat would complain about spending. Heather Mills has more of a leg to stand on than you Dems.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
