I think we also need to understand that not everyone comes to this site wanting to get involved in a discussion. If I ask a question, I want the anwer, but may have no time or inclination to do more than read the answer and move on. Askville is many things to many people.

We have to remember that just because someone doesn't take the time to even say "Thanks! ", which would sure be nice, doesn't mean they haven't read and appreciated the answer.

True but some answers need a bit of clarification ,hope I spelled that right, and most don't ask for it. Squeeky-changes-suck 15 months ago .

But if all you really want is the basic answer, without details or great elaboration, sometimes that quick, first answer does it for you. Shrug. I've certainly asked both kids but while I do make every effort to go back and at least say thanks, if I try to extend the conversation, sometimes it forces me to put my brain cells in action and, jeez, that takes time, especialy if I'm involved in a dozen other things going on at home. So, it obviously works both ways.

Sometimes all I want is an answer, give it to me, let me go, other times I have both the time and inclination to respond, like today, so different strokes for different folks.

But you don't know they're not checking. If you use the notification option, which might even be the default setting for new users, Askville sends the answers to your email address. And, remember, everything typed here counts as an answer, so the asker gets a copy of every response. It's possible to read everything written in reply to your question without ever coming back to Askville.

All we know for sure is that some people don't acknowledge those responses and, while it would be nice to get a "thanks" or a thumbs-up, as Tundra said, sometimes people just want the answer and to move on.
