I find this very frustrating, if this is the case! I think if we make comments on questions then we should be able to see any answers showing. Can this be fixed, if so how?
Do you agree/disagree? Is it my computer? Please help the frustration.
I feel like giving up on askville at the moment! Thanks (I am still learning my way around this site) Asked by Lollipop_the_Bunny 57 months ago Similar Questions: answers questions comment answer Recent Questions About: answers questions comment answer Amazon > Askville.

My Guess My guess is that he idea behind hiding the five answers until the question closes is to insure that the people who answer the question are answering with their own knowledge rather than looking at the other answers and saying the same thing. This provides different points of view and similar answers help to validate each other. It just keeps each thought and answer an original Very often after I've answered a question, and have a chance to see what others have answered, I think of something I should have included in MY answer. If we could go into 'discussionns' and take a look at everyones' answers..it would influence our thoughts...and our answer wouldn't be an original thought. Askville designed the site this way on purpose.
It works very well and I honestly don't think they'll ever change the format. Have you checked out FAQ? You can access it at the bottom of any page.
It explains every little detail of how Askville works. Your computer is fine...there's no way to change things...just enjoy the great friends you'll make here...the site is totally addicting.
You can't see the answers unless you submit an answer or the question time limit has expired. It is not your computer. Making a comment on the question does not affect this.
This is to prevent people from reading the answers, and then submitting the same answer themselves. If commenters could view the answers, they could just reword the answer, and submit it as their own. The whole point is to get 5 independent answers to a single question.
There are some that want to try to game the system, to gain as many points and coins as possible. That takes the fun out of Askville. I hope you don't give up on Askville.
I get frustrated too waiting for questions to close so I can see the answers. I hope this helps. " Yes, you have to answer a question to see the other answers. If you don’t submit one yourself, you will only be able to read the answers once all five have been submitted or the question closes (seven days after the question is asked). Commenting on the discussion board will not enable you to see the answers (unless, of course, you’ve already answered the question).
Only people answering the question can rate the answers, and they can only see the other answers after they have submitted theirs. This makes each person submit an honest, original answer instead of one based on information others have provided. (For example, I can see that one other person is working on your question, but I have no idea what they’re writing.
) It also works to keep the ratings fair. If you could read an answer before submitting your own, you might be able to build on it or phrase yours in such a way to obtain a higher rating. Keeping control over the answers helps to make Askville a site where users are rewarded for giving honest, well-thought out, original answers.
"I think if we make comments on questions then we should be able to see any answers showing. Do you agree/disagree? " I disagree; I like the way Askville has set up the answering process.
I’m sure there are ways to work the system to get the most coins or whatever, but I think this site is more about asking real questions and getting (and giving) good answers. If people would just focus on that, they’d find that the coins add up on their own. (No offense intended - I’m not saying this is your motivation.
But it is for some. ) I think the way the system is set up minimizes manipulation of answers for ratings or coins. If merely posting a comment allowed people to see the answers, then someone could post a basic comment just to check out the other answers before submitting one of their own.
There goes the originality, and the asker may suffer by getting five variants of the same response instead of five opposing points of view. Besides, if posting a comment was all that’s needed to see answers during the open period, then what would be the point of hiding the answers at all? Why not just let everyone see the answers from the start?
Again, I believe the reason is to encourage people to put forth honest, original answers to a given question independent of any other point of view. Can this be fixed, if so how? You can always submit a comment to Askville with your suggestion.
At the bottom of every page is a "Give us feedback" link. They may or may not choose to change the process. If you could see the answers, you could base your answer on the content That’s why the answer slot says "In the meantime here are some actions you can take: Answer this question - You will then be able to see the other submitted answers right away" Askville is constructed to have people answer questions based on what they know, not what they’ve seen in other answers. Yahoo! Answers allows you to see everything, and people often erase their answers and add/stel content from the other answers.
That’s why you’ll never be allowed to edit answers on Askville. Does it matter if you have it in your watched list or not? Nope, that makes no difference at all.
You smply can’t ever see the answers ’til you submit your own. "I think if we make comments on questions then we should be able to see any answers showing" Why,just add it to your watchlist and go to closed questions to view it,once the question closes. I suggested to Askville very early on that they never modify this feature.
At that time, they stated they had absolutely no intention of ever changing it. Can this be fixed, if so how? Do you agree/disagree?
Nope, because it’s not broken. It’s one of the things that makes Askville so much better than other online message boards like this. That said,I completely disagree this should ever be changed.
Hardly seems like a reason to quit Askville to me. Sources: Askville .
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
