After years of dyeing my hair a developed an allergy to hair day. I hadn't done a patch test cause I figured after all my safe dyeing it would be fine, it wasn't. I ended up with seconded degree burns all over my scalp, neck, and ears.
That was several months ago and the color has now grown out quite a bit, my natural hair color is a light ash brown and the last dye I used was black, I have also hennaed my hair a few times since(that really didn't to much except make parts look a little rust colored) so needless to say my hair is looking a bit funky. I want to try using a dye removal product (ie. Color Oops) but I don't know which kind would be safest to use with my sensitivity to those kind of products, or if it would be safe at all?

I had the same problem plus my whole face puffed up. I had dyed for a whole year before and was surprised to have a reaction after all that time. But I looked like the elephant man all the way down to my chin.
Burns on the scalp as well. I used nothing on my hair for almost 2 years after this happened. At 57, the gray was evident.
Then I discovered the John Frieda hair Glaze. It said mild dyes, so I waited for summer vacation (I'm a school librarian) and gave it a try. It was amazing.
I used it once a week (afraid to use every day) and by the 3rd week it had made me considerably less gray. When I went back to school, people said how great my hair looked, had I just had a cut? Nope, it was just not gray anymore.
Now after over a year, I feel it does a great job of covering most of the gray. Not as good as a full dye job, but No reaction or swelling. I love it!
I would pass on the Color Oops and when you feel your scalp is really healed, give it a try in your shade. They have improved the formula from when I started buying and it leaves no residue or greasy feeling. buzzillions.com/prd-92424-john-frieda-br... is the only color I can use and I am grateful,Librarian50 Sources: johnfrieda.com/pr/index.asp?fullText=tru... .
Doesn't sound like an allergy To me it sounds like you had one heck of a chemical burn instead. I had one from a perm once and ohhh boy same reaction as you! This can happen if your scalp is stimulated before the chemical goes on or left on to long and hair color shouldn't be put on the scalp.
Buy the normal brand you have used that worked and do a patch test and wait 48 hours. See if you have any reactions to it. If you don't have a reaction please make sure you don't brush your hair hard or scratch your scalp...thus the stimulation.

Don't! Henna is a vegetable dye and will not work with products like color oops. You have to wait to let that grow out.
When mixing products like those you can have even worse problems because you first of all are most likeely allergic to color oops same active ingredients as color, plus if it reacts it can literally get so hot that it will melt you your hair. It can even smoke if it is bad enough. It is dangerous to mix products.
Once it grows out, try a patch test again. Also, go see a hair dresser to see if she has a temporary solution to getting your hair colored.
