Well, Amazon has been going along with these attempts to have it collect sales tax. It's already collecting sales tax in KS, KY, ND, NY and WA to avoid litigation, even though the Interstate Commerce Act clearly states mail order companies are exempt. And the federal government has been talking about an Internet tax for 10 years.As for what you can do, call your legislators.

They're trying that here in Texas as well, only not retroactively, just on future purchases. If they start doing that, I may as well go to a store and stand in line for common items like books.

Xuemertie, it is probably not a retroactive tax as most state have and have had for a long time a Use Tax on items used in the state for which the purchaser did not pay sales tax on (i.e. Bought from a mail-order or internet company, or brought in from another state which doesn't charge tax).
