Yes you need a passport, the only time you can use your Military ID card as a means of ID when flying is if you are on official orders to and from a command. You are traveling on leisure so it will be required. You should have a passport anyways for travel as you do not want to brag that you are military and in that program.
Also need to have your leave chit approved and you might not get that month off or be permitted to go to Thailand there can be restrictions to where you can and can't go.
Here's the deal, if you leave the US you better have a passport, a civilian one and not a government one for personal security reasons. Some countries will let you enter without a passport but won't let you leave. Most countries won't let you enter though without one.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
