I'm looking for a book about a war between China and the United States, which was won by China. The main body of the book was about American women who were taken to China and made into slaves. It must be at least 20-30 years old.

I seem to recall the cover declaring that it had won a major literary award. Asked by constance2u 52 months ago Similar questions: book war China United States won Arts > Books.

This 1965 novel by John Hersey is an allegory of the American civil rights movement. The title character is a young woman who was kidnapped from her Arizona home and sent to China as a slave, to serve the conquering race, where whites are treated as worthless. She is part of a protest movement in which peaceful protesters stand for hours in the "sleeping bird" position, on one leg.

Is this the book you are thinking of? Other major Hersey works are A Bell for Adano.1944. The Wall.

1950. The Marmot Drive.1953. A Single Pebble.1956.

The War Lover.1959. The Child Buyer.1960. White Lotus.1965.

Too Far to Walk.1966. A Bell for Adano won the Pulitzer Prize in 1945. 2 I received a private message from the questioner saying that this was indeed the very book she was trying to recall. This one stayed with me very vividly, as did everything else I read by John Hersey, even though in all cases it was decades ago. How gratifying it must be to an author to know his work is remembered and sought after many year later.

Do you think the United States has to be "t" again before many Americans admit that we are in a war with terrorists.

General war question. The United States has been at war with one nation or another almost 50% of the time...

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
