Im trying to throw a party (highschool) in or near Pleasanton, Ca. Where can I throw it?

There are two issues here, legal rights and responsible behavior. Police may not enter a home without a search warrant absent "exigent circumstances." (Exigent circumstances involve some sort of emergency in which immediate action is required; some examples include the risk of destruction of evidence, or a person crying for help.) Police may not enter a home to investigate a noise complaint without either: (A) a warrant to search the home, or (B) the consent of the owner (or someone with "apparent authority" over the house). If police knock on the door, and a person chooses to open the door, and that person walks outside and closes the door behind him, police may not require the person to open the door or enter the home (unless, of course, there is reason to believe an emergency exists).

Rather than citing a number of Supreme Court cases, I will just refer you to the excellent video prepared by the people at http://www.flexyourrights.org which includes this exact situation as one of their examples of how to deal with the police: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqMjMPlXzdA However, in addition to legal rights, your question also raises issues of good judgment and responsible behavior. Just because you can do something legally, doesn't mean it's a good idea. :-).

There are a lot of problems with your strategy but I won't go into the technicals. The bottom line is the police do not need a warrant to enter your house, and by having your 21 year old friend lie to them you are basically inviting them in and giving her a ticket to jail or a huge fine (or both). Cops deal with liers and kids every day on the job, they are better at smelling lies than you or your friend are at telling them, the ability to sense crime isnt localized to rapeist, druggies and murderers, they are trained to deal with people breaking the law, period, give them the credit they deserve (and deduct your knowledge of the law and warrants because there are 1000s of college courses based on them and to assume you know a lot by reading things off the internet and listening to random people is insane) and come up with a different plan.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
