Modern science agrees that there are more than 4 dimensions, while they are not entirely in agreement as to how many dimensions we talk about.
According to modern superstring theory, the assumption of 11 dimensions makes the most sense, since it seems to explain a lot of open questions.
I recommend, if you are really interested in this topic, the book "The elegant universe" from Brian Greene, which makes a great attempt at explaining this highly theoretical concept in simple terms for non-scientists.
It stays a complicated subject in any case, and cannot be explained in a few words, just because our understanding is always limited by our three-dimensional thinking.
But it is a fascinating subject and certainly worth exploring.
Suppose you invent out,the so called the fifth Dimension. Then you will be called upon to relegate it down upon the four dimensional object,so that it could be recognised as one another extension of Dimension over and above the pre-existing 4D object. This relegation will become impossible,if you wrongly comprehend any of the subordinate dimensional definition.
Wherefore I am called upon to become definite,as to what you recognise,as to be the 4th Dimension, and if that really qualifies,to be relied as a spatial dimension in space.
I am afraid,Time is certainly not a spatial dimension,it encompasses nothing in space, upon which the universe of fifth dimension could be based upon.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
