Is a person considred next of kin if they got adopted?

Depends how the adoptee feels about the adopted family. I have a friend that did a genealogy research of his adopted family to make sure he would be included in their family tree. The family that adopted him made a beautiful and successful effort to make him feel accepted.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
