Is addiction always bad?can it have a healthy siad?can you think of example of bad addiction, good addiction and part good, part bad addiction?

(Refuting the refutation) Well, at the very least, the word has a negative connotation. And many resources for the layman give a pretty negative definition of the word: Cambridge: dictionary.cambridge.org/define.asp?key=... Merriam Webster: merriam-webster.com/dictionary/addiction Dictionary.com: dictionary.reference.com/browse/addiction Encarta: encarta.msn.com/dictionary_/addiction.html The very idea of an addiction implies a behavior that the participant cannot easily stop on their own, that controls their lives in some way. It implies that a person goes to excess, cannot control themselves and often will continue the behavior even if it has negative physical, mental or social results.

Yes, some addictions can result in mild or even positive results, but there's a line that can be easily crossed. Ultimately, I don't think it's a question of good or bad addictions. I think it's a question of controlling addictions and not letting them become so pervasive that they are detrimental to other necessary functions. In terms of video games, this means not letting them isolate you completely from friends, hygiene, sleep, proper diet and exercise.

And, of course, if they begin to impede you from going to work or start resulting in financial hardships, evictions, divorce, that can only be a bad thing. (Unless you didn't like your wife) A controlled video game addiction can result in relaxation after a bad day, some good times with your kids or coworkers, using your brain more actively than watching TV, etc.Even if you get to the point where you HAVE to play a game for 2 hours in order to unwind every day after work, that doesn't have to be negative.

By definition, an addiction is an unhealthy thing. Although you can get addicted to things that are healthy (for example, some psychologists are trying to get obsessive exercise classified as an addiction), addiction means that a person unhealthily neglects other important parts of their life to feed their addiction. If you're looking for the most healthy ones, I would say that exercise or religion are the healthier ones, while the obvious alcohol and drugs are the more unhealthy.

I never look at anything as "good" or "bad"... even with my clients who have addictive behaviors and other issues. I see ALL behavior as... useful. Addiction is VERY useful in dealing with intense emotions. It's much easier to take drugs or drink... or smoke... or gamble... or have inappropriate sex... play video games... to take care of those intense feelings instead of dealing with them directly.

Unfortunately, these kinds of behaviors are short sighted. They are usually connected to long-term health problems - physical and/or emotional.So... my answer is: There are both healthy (useful) and unhealthy (not useful) components of addition.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
