Is anyone else confused about the Roger Clemens situation?

This guy seems to be going to an awful lot of trouble to "clear his name. " Today I read a story in the NY Times (nytimes.com/2008/02/14/sports/baseball/1...) that said, amongst other things, that Clemens himself had spent days visiting Congressmen prior to the hearing. Then it said that he tracked down a former nanny to possibly coach her testimony.

I know a huge ego may be the culprit, but am I the only one who thinks this guy is going to some extraordinary lengths, along with risking a perjury charge, to fight this? Asked by HankMoody 47 months ago Similar questions: confused Roger Clemens situation Sports & Recreation.

I am not really confused... To me it is simple. He is guilty of using (along with much of the major league players during this era). He is just trying to salvage his reputation.

He has a HUGE ego and he thinks he can snowball everyone and convince people he did not use. He is risking perjury and a jail sentence. What he has going against him: McNamee...Clemens former personal trainer who testified that he provided and actually injected steroids and HGH in Clemens.

McNamee also produced used syringes, gauze with supposedly Clemens blood and steroids and HGH traces still on the material. McNamee also ratted on Pettitte and Knoblauch who both have admitted use under McNamee. I think at first Clemens thought it was going to be his word vs McNamee...so Clemens went that route and denied everything. As more and more evidence has been presented Clemens has found himself in a deeper and deeper mess...he really has no choice but to continue with the lies.

Often happens to liars...lies beget more lies. The Mitchell Report...Clemens was featured in 21 pages of the reports...tons of cancelled checks and other evidence.Pettitte...Clemens best friends admits to speaking to Clemens about steroids and HGH use...Clemens says Pettitte must have "misremembered" their conversations because they never took place. Clemens wife used HGH...tell me if your wife is using...you are the pro athlete...that seems evidence you are probably also using.

Clemens performance...Clemens career was beginning to decline in 1998. GMs around the league were reporting that Clemens was entering his last years...not much gas in the tank. This performance decline is normal for pitchers his age.

All of a sudden he becomes the best pitcher on the planet again and that lasts long into his mid forties...this is very unheard of in MLB history for a hard throwing pitcher to get better with age and continue to be a hard thrower. He went from a pitcher in decline to the best in the league and he got better as he aged...this just does not happen naturally. Clemens broke relations with McNamee in 2002...supposedly there is info that his new gym/trainer/steroid source will come forward soon and also admit to supplying him.

Rocket has close ties in the republican party...he is trying to influence those politicians or use his contacts to get the government off his back. Clemens has a huge ego...he probably figures he did nothing wrong as the rest of the league was also on steroids...he is trying to save face. He has no humility...he is not like Pettitte where he got caught and was humble enough that he admitted guilt.

Clemens has always kind of been this way...a lot like Bonds...huge ego...he does not want anything to diminish his accomplishments even though the steroids and HGH are huge factors in his success the past 10 years. He knew it was wrong, or he wouldn't have felt the need to preserve evidence, yet he did it anyway. He did not report it immediately, but instead waited until Roger Clemens was a major star.At this point I am wondering: whether Clemens is guilty or not, what was the trainer's reason for HIS behavior? Was he hoping to get rich off of Clemens?

Did Clemens offend him in some way, and he devised a retaliation plan? My curiosity is engaged.

1 I would bet 10 to 1 he is guilty of steroid use. He is just trying to salvage his reputation...too late.

2 I'm in agreement here. He seems to be protesting way too much. I don't see why his trainer would lie about it, but maybe I'm just being naive.

AND I think Congress should have butted out and not started this fiasco to begin with.

What is the down side?Jail. Why risk it? .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
