Is askville global? I've seen askvillers from Canada, for example, and am wondering how many are from other countries?

Just curious....If so, I would think that Amazon would have translators built into their system, for example, to make the site more user-friendly. Asked by Believer 58 months ago Similar questions: askville global askvillers Canada wondering countries Amazon > Askville.

I'm an askviller from France I'm an askville user from France, but I'm using it in english, as they haven't released this service in an other language. They haven't any translator, but I hope they will! Worse, I've checked domain names askville.Fr (france) and askville.

Be (belgium), and they seems to be registered to people having nothing to do with amazon. Askville.Eu (europe) is registered too, but I can't see by who. I've added in my watchlist topics like "france" and "paris", but for the last week, the only question submitted in it was one of mine... which has one answer, so maybe we're two users from france!

It is global .... but English-speaking I'm from New Zealand and there's at least one other Kiwi out there. I'm pretty sure I've spotted users from India and the United Arab Emirates as well. Maybe some Brits too.

Computer/automatic translators probably couldn't cope well with the highly colloquial and at the same time often technical questions and answers I think. Sources: Me .

Probably is I'm from Trinidad, down in the Caribbean. I've seen another user whose hometown is listed as Medellin, which could be Medellin, Columbia. I think non-American/Canadian users are definitely in the minority though.

I know one question I asked about cricket didn't receive much response at all, and what was there was clearly just a wikipedia copy/paste special. Cricket isn't a hot topic in America. I don't know if Amazon promotes Askville on it's country-specific sites. I didn't see any links for it on the co.Uk, .

Ca, or co. Jp sites (UK, Canada, Japan) so that could prevent some of Amazon's international customers from finding it. I was actually wondering the other day if one could post questions in another language, say Spanish.

I don't know enough to write a coherent sentence though, otherwise I woulda tried. Not that it would prove much, as many people living in America speak Spanish. It's early days yet though, and it's still beta so once they begin to grow they will probably start promoting Askville more on their international sites.

Just like the web itself, yes, it's global I've had at least one responder from Norway, and another from Australia, so yes it is definitely global. There is nothing about asville. Com that would prevent an internet user in another country access the site.As for why there are no translators, there's two reasons.

One, that is a non-trivial request. At this point in our technologicaly history, there are NO reliably consistent translators for any languages. The most popular one, babelfish.altavista.com, is laughable.

Anyone who's used it knows that it can't be trusted for actual conversationally-adept translations. That technology simply doesn't exist yet. Two, English has become the global language.

Many many industrialized nations teach their children English in primary school, simply because it is how the world communicates. Is it true of every person or even every nation? No, of course not.

Is it "right"? Well that's a matter of opinion. But it is a fact.

If two people from two random countries want to communicate, chances are likely they'll be speaking English to each other.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
