To answer this question in one word, yes. It definitely is. Over the last few years I've heard many classifications for types of poetry, which serve to separate our various styles of expression.
Titles such as conscious poetry or rap are used for emcees whose content is uplifting or positive, while terms such as gangster refer to emcees whose content focuses more on guns, killing and crime. Can an emcee that rhymes about gang life, murder or criminal activity be considered a conscious emcee? Once again I must say yes, definitely.
We must look at the word conscious. Most people use this term in reference to rap/poetry that shows awareness. The word conscious simply means to be aware.
The emcee that rhymes about his real experience as a gangbanger, as a murderer or a criminal is very aware of themselves and their environment. They are conscious about their lyrics and what it is that they are trying to express. They may not be uplifting but they definitely are conscious if they are ... more.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
