Is it a good idea to cut my curly hair so that its medium length?

Go to a professional and have them cut it. It looks like you have some serious layering. You might be able to keep some length if you cut more layers in and remove the damaged parts.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
