Is it legal to copy a region 2 dvd (that I own) into a region 1 dvd, and if so, where do I do it? Thank you?

Many American legal experts believe that... ...under United States' Federal law, making a backup copy of a DVD-Video or an audio CD by a consumer is legal. In other words, it is legal to make a copy of a DVD that you own for your own use. It isn't legal to make copies of your DVD for anyone else, or to make a copy of someone else's DVD for your own use.

DVD discs do not enforce their region codes—they rely on the player to do that. Region codes can thus be removed from the DVD by burning a copy that adds flags for all region codes, effectively creating an all-region DVD. DVD backup software is used for this, and can usually remove Macrovision, CSS, and disabled user operations (UOPs) as well.

CSS decrypting software (such as DVD Decrypter, AnyDVD, and DVD Shrink) allows a region-specific DVD to be copied as an all-region DVD. It also removes Macrovision, Content Scrambling System (CSS), region codes, and user operation prohibitions. DVD Decrypter has been discontinued.

AnyDVD is shareware and is available from http://www.slysoft.com/en/ . DVD Shrink is also shareware and is available from http://www.dvdshrink.org/ / Technically it is a program that makes it easier to make backup copies of your DVDs, but it incidentally allows you to strip the CSS copy protection, remove restrictions on user actions during certain portions of the disc (prohibiting skipping over previews or "FBI Warnings" and so on), and also allows the copy to be either made region-free, (the default setting) or set for any region code. Extra software may be required to remove more recent forms of copy protection such as Macrovision Ripguard. So, to sum it all up:Is it legal to copy a region 2 dvd (that I own) into a region 1 dvd?

Yes, as long as the copy is for your personal use. Where do I do it? Right on your PC, using AnyDVD software from http://www.slysoft.com/en/ .

Technically... Technically, it is not legal. Any unauthorized copying is illegal, so to speak. But, if I were you, I would do it.

And, I have done the similar. What if your DVD player can’t play that DVD you bought from another country?! I bought some also while traveling overseas.

I actually am struggling to decide if I want to give you hints on what to do...... What the hell... You need a computer with DVD-/+RW ROM and the appropriate softwares. For me, I use a set of free softwares. First, the DVD content is copied into the hard drive, region-code is removed or changed, the files then can be burned into a bland DVD disc.

The content can be modified too, for example, you can choose to delete some special features or annoying messages, remove some useless subtitles and audio streams, etc. There is quality concern too, so there are softwares to shrink a double-layer DVD (8.5GB) to fit in a 4.7GB single layer disc, or split a DVD into 2 blank discs, if you don’t want to burn to a double-layer blank disc. If you don’t feel comfortable, BUY one software that does all the steps at once, such as the DVDFab. Go to DVDFab.com.

Please remember, doing this is indeed illegal, but if you have to, and won’t go beyond home use, I guess you can be at peace with yourself, and the law. Sources: my opinions .

2 thank you for your answer. With all due respect, just to understand the law, since I'm not going to sell the copy of the dvd (as region 1), and I own it in the first place, what is the difference between what I'd like to do and people recording things from a tv program? .

3 The assumption on the part of the manufacturer is that you are going to SELL your Region 1 copy--although I suppose that there might be a "gray" area in the law whereby it MIGHT be okay to do. However, converting from Region 2 to Region 1 is quite an elaborate process (the two systems involved are not even compatible), and can usually only be done by a professional, who would not likely do it for you, as--for him--making a copy of a copyrighted disc is illegal. Recording from television is illegal, too, if you use your recording for any other purposes than for your own use.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
