To be honest, I haven't tried to do this, so I don't know exactly. I'd be a bit concerned about it. My first gut reaction would be to say "no."It would be better to go with other alternatives in order to keep your cat warm.

It's important to farmers to keep chicks warm until they grow large enough to be safe all year long. I've no doubt that the same techniques will keep your cat warm, as well as safe. Hope all this helps.
I wouldn't. A friend of mine used one in their dog's house. It bleached its fur and it got "sun burned.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
