Is it okay to get tattooed if you're pregnant? I mean for the baby - not morally?

No. And here are the reasons: 1. Infection - All people getting tattoos risk some kind of infection, and a pregnant woman's body, which is already overloaded taking care of mom & baby will have a tough time fighting the infection for both of them.2.

Ink Unknowns - No one knows what effect the ink could have on the baby. There is a chance it could be pretty darn harmful - remember that tiny amounts of chemicals that may be perfectly harmless to adults might be toxic or deadly to a tiny little fetus.3. Premature Labor - Have a tattoo inked is a form of "trauma" for the body & brain: pain censors go nuts, blood pressure jacks up, and the body reads it as high stress.

This can accidentally trigger early labor, which can be dangerous for the baby.4. No Epidural During Labor - Ok, this is a bit of a long shot, but if momma-to-be is getting a tattoo on her back, then the hospital might refuse to give her an Epidural. Some (not all) hospitals won't give a spinal like that over a fresh tat.5.

Finding a Place to Get It Done - Many tattoo places won't stick a pregnant woman for insurance reasons. If anything goes wrong w/ the baby, the insurance company won't want to come within a thousand yards of the situation. If she absolutely WANTS a tattoo, damn the risks, then she should wait until the end of pregnancy - the fetus will be stronger and less vulnerable to some of the above risks (at least that's what some online tattoo places suggest).

As blight said regarding the Hepatitis B... that would be my first concern. My second concern is for the tattoo. If you have ink work done on an area of the body where the skin is stretched (temporarily) in any way, once the baby is born your tattoo might take on a slightly different shape.Otherwise... go for it.

Pre-natal vitamins and eating healthy are always going to be beneficial not only to mom, but also to that growing baby. Unfortunately, whenever you break open the skin, you risk inviting germs and other bacteria into the body. That is what makes the risk of getting a tattoo while pregnant so dangerous.

There is a chance the tattoo can become infected. If mom fails to properly get this treated, the infection can travel into the entire circulatory system. This is life threatening to mom and baby.

Second, is Hep B. If mom never received the three series of shots to build immunity, there's a chance of contracting it from a tattoo. Once again it affects mom and baby.

Lastly, is the epidural and whether it can be given at a tattoo site. A doctor cannot refuse to treat a patient in pain, it is against the law. They can only advise the mom of possible complications which could arise from placing an epidural at a tattoo site.

And because it involves breaking the skin and placing a small tube into the spinal region, it involves a signed consent from mom or person who can represent mom if she is unable to sign. My husband had to sign all of my consents because I was not able to do so. Ultimately, mom needs to understand all the decisions she makes for herself will affect the baby.

Even after baby is born, she might want to wait on the tattoo because she still runs a risk of passing infection and disease to the baby via breast milk. Hope this info helps. :) **What I have written is purely opinion, and not meant to convey or take place of medical advice.

Discuss with a MD any concerns regarding pregnancy.

Its belived to be a little dangerous, just beause the risk of infection or something like Heptitis B, most tattooists won't even perform on a pregnant woman just for fear or responsibility should something happen. Generally in my OWN opinion, if its a safe tattoist, I don't see anything wrong with it as long as your healthy and take care of yourself + the state of your tattoo. But im not pregnant and cant say what would be best for your baby.

Assuming that the tattoo isn't right on your stomach, it is perfectly fine, unless of course you get it done with a needle that is not sanitized, then you get hepatitis c or hiv. That is not good for baby.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
