Is it posible to use a LCD screen from an otherwise dead laptop as a screen for another device if so how?

It is possible but usually costs so much more than just buying a similar sized LCD that it isnt worth it. You would have to find/buy/make a controller/driver for the LCD you pull from the laptop. In the long run I would highly suggest just getting a cheap screen somewhere else and keep the one you pulled from the laptop either as a spare for the laptop or sell it on ebay.

It depends. If your laptop is a newer model (>1995), the interconnect is most likely a variant of LVDS known as FPD-link. This is fairly well standardized, so if you have a means to create the signals (FPGA) you could use it.

I've seen converter boards that would allow you to use a VGA or DVI input to drive a FPD-link display, but my cursory glance at Google didn't find them. They are rather obscure, but they are available. IIRC they are in the range of $100-200, so at that point you are most likely better off just buying a brand new monitor.

Ballpark no, due to the video drivers for laptops being different for different makes and models. Also the hardware/videocard will be embedded on the motherboard...

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
