When she woke you up complaining about not taking her anywhere nice, your reply should have been "I took you out to a nice place last Friday, and the week before we went on a 3 day vacation. I'm unemployed now dear, and what little I have left coming in needs to help support us until I get a new job. When that happens, we can go out and celebrate."

Don't hesitate to rebut any nonsense thing she says, but do it nicely. Nothing you mentioned sounded "psychotic" but it does sound unrealistic and ridiculous for her to complain about not going out, when you claim to have done it together twice in the past week or so. As for your friend, your wife is entitled to her opinion.

You don't have to agree. Clearly your wife has some issue (s) she's upset about, and the nitpicking on other matters is a symptom of the bigger problem. Find out what she's REALLY upset about, and then maybe you two can tackle it together.

Perhaps she's stressed about your unemployment, and she's reacting poorly to it, in inappropriate ways.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
