Olive oil has a low burn point. Use peanut oil or vegetable oil.

Thanks! But, I can't have peanuts on my nutritional plan and can only have olive oil, grape seed oil, flax oil, etc. No partially-hydrogenated ("trans") oils, no corn or peanut oils. And maybe it really doesn't matter for my nutritional plan what kind of oil I use to season my skillet :/ PLB 1 month ago .

Thank you so much, Violet1. I just watched the video and it was great. I have a question: I assume that you would put the skillet face down on the oven rack and the cookie sheet or foil on the shelf one level lower?

You wouldn't put the skillet directly on top of the cookie sheet or foil, correct? Also, the canola oil is much chearper than the flaxseed oil that was recommended earlier. My nutiritional plan says to not use partially-hydrogenated oils and does not list canola oil as acceptable, but I checked the canola oil I have and it is "O" tans fat.

I cannot tell if it is partially-hydrogenated. But I cannot afford flaxseed oil, so I plan to use canola. Also, I don't have time to season it six times as previously recommended, unless you only do that one time -- but that wasn't clear to me.So, I plan to do it the way shown on the video.

Thank you so much, and to the others who replied to my questions! I am a novice "healthy" cook and appreciate all the help I can get. PLB 1 month ago .

I would place the skillet directly upside down on top of the cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil . The other way you have to clean the oven, too. Too much work.

Thank you, once again! I don't mean to be a perfectionist about this issue, but I want to get this right all the same. I thought about the cleanliness issue, too, but I wonder if doing it the way you described would allow enough heat to circulate within the pan, affecting the cooking surface the way it needs to.Mmmm.

Being inside the oven will heat up the pan totally, all it's nooks and crannies. No circulation needed.

Got it! I've been so busy that I haven't gotten to this yet -- but am going to do it now. Love this website!

I have seasoned my wok with olive oil. For best results, you need to use the "heaviest" olive oil you can get. Light and virgin olive oils will burn off.

Also be careful not to coat too heavily, or it will leave a puddle in the bottom.

Flaxseed comes highly recommended for seasoning cast iron. I haven't tried it but I will next time. Com/wordpress/2010/01/a-science-based-technique-for-seasoning-cast-iron.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! THAT'S MY ANSWER! PLB 1 month ago .

Use olive oil or solid shortening only. Other oils can become "gummy" over time. And Really, it doesn't matter about dietary concerns because with a properly seasoned pan, nothing much leaches into your food.

Also don't use soap when cleaning the pan ever. If it gets something cooked on it, put some water in it and bring to a boil then turn off the heat. Wipe dry.Re season as necessary.

Also don't ever heat one up too high, they can crack or warp! I've done both!

Wow - I just love this website! Just found it this morning and I so appreicate the helpful feedback. Thank you, cbc529!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
