I listened to the tape and answered the survey, but I really don't think he's a racist. I think he's disturbed and going through a bad break-up. Add on top of that his drinking and anger issues and you have Mel Gibson at his worst.
I felt bad listening to that tape. It was a private conversation... no matter how hurtful and rude he was. I have mixed thoughts about it being paraded all across the media.
The N-word? Come on. Mel was drunk and angry.
He used it to get a rile out of her... along with all the other hateful words.
Yes Mel Gibson has long been boycotted by discerning people for being anti- semitic and being racist fits right in with the pattern. He is also anti-non-Christian and for that matter anti-every-version-of-Christian-except-his-own. About the only thing he seems to be pro is gratuitous violence and torture in his vile films.
He would have gotten along great with Torquemada.
No he a guy who drinks to much and is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. I wouls say he is more of a sociopath.
I don't know if Mel Gibson is a racist, and I certainly can not tell solely from these audio recordings. That said, I would lean towards "Yes" based on everything I've heard. The average person does not say "a pack of n-------" will rap you.
More disturbing than that one sentence is his out of control anger issues. The way he speaks to Alec Baldwin in this phone exchange is absolute appalling! youtube.com/watch?v=BbUUsnFSJbE.
According to Whoopi Goldberg, No: "I know Mel, and I know he's not a racist...He may be a bonehead. I can't sit and say that he's a racist, having spent time with him in my house with my kids.
In his book "Blink - The Power of Thinking Without Thinking", Malcom Gladwell asserts that nearly everyone exhibits some forms of racism based on our initial subconscious reactions to certain groups of people. Racism, therefore, could be defined as the embellishment - inward or outward - of those subconscious markers. Mel Gibson's now-public tirade has made it painfully clear that he embraces those flash reactions, further exemplifying his racism and bigotry.
I think he might be less racist than the average earthling. Social mores may be changing, but it seems to me that many are only going stealth about their perceptions on race. Better to call him a madman, not Mad Max :) I remember him saying that his then current wife was to go to hell.
She was not a pre-Vatican 2 Catholic, let alone a Catholic. Asked if he thought she was going to be "saved," he replied, “There is no salvation for those outside the Church. I believe it.
Put it this way. My wife is a saint. She’s a much better person than I am.Honestly.
She’s, like, Episcopalian, Church of England. She prays, she believes in God, she knows Jesus, she believes in that stuff. And it’s just not fair if she doesn’t make it, she’s better than I am.
But that is a pronouncement from the chair. I go with it. €?.
He is a messed up dude. I feel like I should refrain from judging him because this is a private conversation. People should respect that.
I think Mel Gibson is acting out because he is trying to quit smoking. He is suffering from the side affects of taking Chantex, the stop smoking drug.
You should check out Penn & Teller's Bullsh*t episode on numbers and make your own conclusion :.
Perhaps things are not what they seem. He seems to be stuck in an Elvis Presley spiral dive. He has let his super stardom get out of control and assume a life of it's own.
Beneath all the flash, the millions, and the women is an angry unhappy man going through a severe mid-life crisis, lashing out and playing the blame game. This is sad, as he is a great actor. It seems he was happier when he was with his wife and children.
I hope he does not wind up Like Elvis or MJ.
I don't think he's a racist, but I *DO* think he's got some MAJOR anger issues. This isn't the first time we've heard him get drunk and scream at people. It's pretty bad too - whether anything happens in court or not, his career is over.
Look at Michael Richards (Kramer from Seinfeld). One small racist remark and the guy vanishes...
Okay, there will be no polls in my answer, no links, and no quotes. The answer is simply yes! He is a celebrity who has issues.Period.
He thinks he is untouchable, and lets his mouth run quite frequently. I personally think he is a narcissistic jerk, but hey that's not my answer, lol. Any mispelling is due to my eyes being slanted, I'm Chinese, lol.
Kidding! That doesn't make me racist for the joke.... Mel was not joking. He is surely under much stress, concluding his inability to act like a proper role model lately. It does not excuse or justify his actions, nor does it make him look any less racist.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
