The name Satan is derived from Hebrew: it simply means 'the adversary' - and was usually used to denote the king/emperor of a nation/empire that was invading Israel whereas the term 'devil' (hairy one - also Hebrew) was applied to the gods that the invaders worshiped.
The name Lucifer was a complete mistranslation (Hebrew scholars never use this name) and shouldn't have appeared in the Bible at all as it was the Roman name for the planet Venus (it means 'morning star').
I was always led to believe the Devil and Satan were one and the same, which coincides with the response of the rest of the group.
Since I have nothing new to add to the collective answers, I should tell you my reason for contributing is just to say that Phoenixarizona has an interesting interpretation of Satan/the devil's role in the cosmos. Thanks for throwing the idea out there. I kinda like the idea of referring to Lucifer as the "Wrath of God".
Yes...they are one and the same. He is also called Lucifer.
Satan, the devil, the evil one, the murderer is one.
There is no seperate devil and seperate satan. He is all and above.
Hubber dahoglund, satan is not God's sort of adviser. God does not need advising.
Hubber phoenixarizona, satan is not, has never been God's right hand man. Satan has always been a bum and a loser.
I like how everyone fails to cite any sources of any kind. You know what that means? It means all of your answers are mere speculation, and a speculative answer is a USELESS answer.Anyway...
The words 'Devil' and 'Satan' are often used interchangeably to refer to the same personage. See "en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satan.
Or diávolos = 'slanderer' or 'accuser'1) . ..
There are also some good points made in "secweb.infidels.org/?kiosk=articles&id=" regarding the logic (or illogic) of the existence of a supernatural adversary.
We often use the two terms interchangeably. However, in the Book of Job one of the persons is called the Satan. In this case the Satan is some sort of adviser to God.
Sorry but I still believe that Satan, the devil, Lucifer Beezulbub are still Gods right hand man.
In the book Lucifer wanted to rule heaven and basically called war on god for heaven. God being the ultimate creator of course won. Was Lucifer cast out though?
Yes to a degree and God gave Lucifer his own kingdom to rule which we all refer to as hell. Lucifer also has his own royal subjects aka demons. What does Lucifer do in hell?
He punishes the wicked so, I think that god still does in fact love lucifer so much that lucifer kept his job as gods right hand man and was given his own kingdom. Lucifer gets to do the dirty work. Maybe we could even refer to Lucifer as the "wrath of God".
Just putting it out there.
The one and only adversary walking up and down the earth is Satan to get to the weakness link. Yes, Satan is the Devil. He was once an angel, God cast out of heaven.
The devil knows the word of God. He has many disguises too! The bible speaks of him as being called Legion (for they are many).
Satan is the Devil....we often use the term devil to refer to any demonic entity or force. But, the bible refers to Satan as the Devil.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
