Political parties are about winning and gaining power and for myself, is the reason I won't succumb to being a party sycophant. It's a game by the numbers. I also believe that there are Democrats who have a conservative outlook, as there are Liberals like yourself who do not want to identify solely with that party.
Guilt by association is a hard thing to stomach and I won't allow the actions of others to reflect on me.
Considering that some people have distorted views of what a Dem or Repub is or isn't, it's not surprising that there's a dearth of misinformation about what a liberal is when defined by angry conservatives using the most disconnected pejoratives they can angrily spew. The real problem starts when people view their political opponent not as an ideological opposite, but as a real visceral physical threat to their projected views of their political opponent not as a disagreement in views, but as a physical embodiment of a real war-like enemy that requires elimination from the human world of the living. Because conservative authoritarian worldviews are typically so extreme, it's not uncommon for conservatives to view a political opponent not as an individual with different views, but as a stubborn enemy that cannot be reasoned or bargained with, no compromise is the current mindset of authoritarian conservatives.
So any means by which conservative views can be forced into the body politic, they will maniacally force the distorted narrative of their political ideals by manipulating emotional triggers with undecided voters so they willingly vote for a distorted narrative that favors obfuscatory regressive politicians and their profit-centric, anti-worker, corporate ideology. There are however moderate conservatives who used to be called "liberal republicans" and blue dog democrats which were essentially just conservatives holding office in a predominately democrat voting district with confused right leaning voters who care more about electing a conservative who reminds them of the old Dixiecrat political views that dominated the southern democrat party in the early 60's.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
