Is there a effective home remedy for a broken tooth?

I was "Mugged" friday night and was Left with one broken tooth --- It hurts like hell. I have washing my mouth out after every meal with warm water,Baking powder and salt ---Brushing carefully with sensodyne. Is there anything else I can do tp "Treat" it until Monday when I go see a dentist? My PROBLEM is that I'm Unemployed & have No insurance.

A Friend of mine suggested that I talk to my "Old" Dentist before I got laid off(A relationship I had for 8 years). If he sees that it's a real dental emergency, He might possibly treat me Because I was a good patient despite me being out of work --- there's a better than average chance he would work out a payment plan with me. I do have $1500 saved up & a credit card as last resort.

Looking for a job will be tough with a broken smple! I have also heard of low cost dental clinics that would do emergancy work for people without insurance---Where would I find these places? ANY HELP to these Questions would be greatly apprieciated---Thank you!

Go to the dentist and get it fixed............. every State has a Victims of Crime fund that you can apply to. The amount is based on the bills that you will submit. You are also entitled to psychological counseling.

Take advantage of everything they offer. My son was assaulted by a drunk that swang a beer bottle on his face. Luckily it happened just in front of the Robert Wood Johnson Hospital......... his friends took him there.

They removed the pieces of glass embbeded in his lips (not all), gave him some pain killer and sent him home. We called the dentist that told him to come in immediately (was a Sunday). It was determined that 3 of the bottom teeth were chipped at the border and the dentist reconstructed them on the spot.

The 4 teeth on the top cracked badly needed to be under observation. To make a long story short, he ended up having to have root canal on them and have crowns. Our dentist was willing to wait for him to be able to pay but we, the parents payed saying that he would reimburse us when he collects the State help.

Save all bills and statements, police report and pictures of your injury etc. You will have to send supporting documents to the State. Continuing... the dental problem gave my son horrible headaches and instead of going on disability he decided to try to keep working. The jerks (financial company in Woodbridge) that he worked for ended his job because he had to go to the doctors too many times.

Eventually he collected the money to cover the dental treatment (almost $6,000) and when he wanted to pay us we told him to hold on to it...... what we have will be eventually be theirs anyway, so we help earlier than later.... we gave our daughter the same amount so we show that we do not have favorites! We spent a lot of money and energy when they were young trying to keep their teeth perfect and well cared for.It was heart wrenching to see what a drunken jerk (he was never caught) did to a beautiful smile and to the psyche of a guy that always thought he was very capable of defending himself. 5 years later and he is still angry about it.

Ask your dentist to help you out and that you will pay as soon as the funds comes in. Sometimes the Victims of Crime funds pays directly to the dentist. Free clinics are available but if they find out you have a little money they are no longer free.

Free is really for the destitute. Another thing you can try is if you have a Dental University nearby they might treat you very cheaply. Of one thing you can be sure........ that tooth needs care and immediately before an infection sets in.

Good luck!.

Oral Analgesic (liquid! ) until Monday - Oragel or the liquid kind. Dip a Qtip in it and stick it right where the nerve is.

I know it may hurt a bit but Ohhhhh the relief! Trust me I have been there myself. Tooth pain is the worst!

Take care and hope it helps! .

So sorry to hear that ... you've been mugged - and on top of that had your tooth broken. It's really outrageous to say the least . Try to contact your old dentist - he's the one who knows you best and would probably treat you for a reasonable fee.

Good Luck! .

Here is the best advice I can give you. First of all, I am so sorry that you got mugged! If you reported it to the police, there may be money to help you (or at least, reimburse you) though the Victim's Services department that many police/sheriff's agencies have.

That is worth checking out, once you have your dental emergency cared for. Other posters have given you excellent information on the Discussion Board. The problem is going to be getting anyone to see you over the weekend.

If you can tough it out until then, start calling the community clinics in the link Carla gave you first thing Monday morning, and check with your old dentist as well (and try to get to talk to him in person or at least on the phone, if you think his office staff won't be helpful. ) The university dental school in my city does offer reduced rates (though I don't know that they do pro bono), and the work is usually done by senior dental students, under the direct supervision of "full-fledged" dentists. For pain, beyond what you are doing now, I just have a few suggestions.

There is dental "putty" that you can buy at a drugstore (in the toothbrush/toothpaste section), that you can place on a broken tooth or to temporarily cement in a crown. Take a look; if you think it would work for you, it is worth a try, and not expensive. If you use it to cover a nerve or root, you will have to be very careful what you eat, and try not to chew on that tooth at all, since the putty does not harden into anything that will withstand chewing.

Another thing to do, if you are not doing it already, is to take a pain-killer on a regular basis. If you don't have access to anything narcotic, even acetaminophen or ibuprofen can help, although it won't take care of it entirely. Take the maximum adult dose, and take it around the clock, until you can get dental help.

Good luck to you, and I hope you are able to find help and relief soon! I do recommend a regular drug store/pharmacy, rather than the pharmacy section in a grocery store, since you can find a better selection in the drug store..

If the tooth is broken, then you need to get it restored. If a small portion of tooth is chipped off, then you can get dental filling done for the broken tooth. If the nerve of the tooth is exposed, then root canal treatment followed by dental crown will be required.By the time, you visit your dentist, you can avoid eating from that side of the tooth so that it doesn't break further.

Maintain good oral hygiene to avoid secondary infections and continue with warm saline rinses. You can talk to your old dentist for treatment or can visit a dental school where treatment is provided at low cost. I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
