Unix doesn't need an anti-virus When you are running on Unix you are typically not running as root. Therefore getting a virus on Unix is not really an issue as without root privileges it's not going to be able to do much to muck up your system. It could still affect your personal files I suppose but still easier to deal with in the long run given proper backups and what not, which should be taken anyhow since I would assume hardware failure is just as likely if not more than a virus.

That being said, you may still want an anti-virus program on Unix, there are some good reasons such as mail servers. For that purpose I would probably recommend Clam Anti-virus: clamav.net/ It's open source and I think that's a good thing typically. I've use an AV for Windows based on this project too and I was pretty happy with that for what I needed it for.

Not that I've ever heard of ... But.. Depends on the unix variant. Ther are few anti-virus products for unix, not that much a problem.. But on machines which have the windows emulator, the unix engine presumabely could run one of the free anti-virus products for Windows. AVG for example ... Not much help, but a maybe!.

I don't use resident anti-virus even on Windows (I'm fairly careful) as it is an unnecessary resource hog. I believe most Unix anti-virus will scan for Windows viruses (not much point otherwise as there are *very* few (any?) Unix viruses).

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
