Is there a web site I can show my boss regarding how many paid days a boss should give for a death in the family I'd like to print something out and show him the average. I was out five days for the death of a sister and he's paying for one. I know he's under no obligation to pay for bereavementtime but even my husband (for his sister in law) is getting two days!

There is no place where you can get that information. Since probably more places have 0 days than even one, I would say you got of lucky. It soulds like a small place you work at, so you should be happy you got anything.
The bereavement leave policy is set at the HR level for a company, and is different for each company. The places I work, it is usually three days, but I work for fortune 500 companies that can afford to allow people to have that much time off. However, I have worked for many more places, expecially when I was an hourly employee, where there are no days paid for bereavement.

It varies from state to state and country to country. You didn't specify what country or state you live in. However, here is a site from New Zealand.
buckettlaw.co.nz/SITE_Default/fyi/focus_... How much bereavement leave is an employee entitled to? An employee may take three days leave for a bereavement where the death is the employee’s; spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, grandchild, or spouse’s parent. An employee is also entitled to one day of bereavement leave for the death of any other person where the employer considers the employee has suffered a bereavement.
Relevant factors include: the closeness of association between the employee and the deceased person, whether the employee has to take significant responsibility for all or any of the arrangements for the ceremonies relating to the death, any cultural responsibilities of the employee in relation to the death. The Act does not impose limits on the amount of bereavement leave that can be taken in the course of the year if the employee suffers multiple bereavements.
I don't agree with it either. But 20 some odd years ago, we were given 3 days. I don't agree, some people still come back in a mournful state of mind and need more time.
The last thing you need is an argument with your boss. What goes around, come around. (I'm full of sayings).
But I believe it. You may be justified though. It was an immediate part of your family, which will make him wrong.By the way, I"m so sorry for your loss.
Is it possible to go to the head of the establishment and relay your story? Maybe it will be the last time he interferes with family bereavement. I exposed my former boss for different reasons, but I believe aunts, uncles, even grandparents are given 3 days.
Those family members who are close to you are given 5 days. My girlfriends grandmother passed and was given 3 days. Another friends mother passed away and she was given 5 dys.
Maybe it depends on where you're working and their policies. I believe I'm right. Look into it immediately.
If I'm wrong, the world has definetely changed ina short time. Good Luck to you. I hope this works in you favor.
Once again, I'm sorry for you. Sources: Been there .
You would have to check with your state. Most companies will give three days for bereavement and then there is my husband's company. If it's your sibling you get one day if it's a parent you get two days.My grandmother passed away a year ago and my husband took off to take care of me and they gave him a mark for not being at work.
This really, really peeved him. Now he tells his family to give me two weeks notice if something is going to happen to them so he can take vacation to help out. Over the years companies would give three paid days out of respect for you and your family.
Sorry for the loss of your sister! .
Call or visit your local wage and hour office. ( state office ) .
