While we were little, my mother had black hair--always had black hair. I just saw the tag mistakes; you’ve already done it haven’t you. Don’t worry if you did, it comes off and you can fix it with some good shampoos and/or treatments.

I will never in my whole life understand why she all of a sudden wanted blond hair, but she did. Oh my God, you should have seen it. It came out carrot orange.

She was on a rant while us five kids were watching TV and straining with every single bit of self control possible not to kill ourselves by letting nature take its course and fall victim to the natural inclination of hysterical laughter. It was so hard not to laugh at dinner when we had to sit there and see it through a whole meal, but we were good and no one fell to the floor bursting with raucous laughter. Did I mention that she had to wear that to work everyday?YES... Since the back of the box informed the user to not use the stuff once a week, and probably not once a month. It stayed orange for about three weeks and then she had black hair again and I believe with all my heart and soul that she never, never, ever considered trying that again; she had learned her lesson.

The one thing I do recall word for word, was her saying, I knew I should have used the peroxide first! So she did know, but figured it wouldn`t make much difference if she skipped a step.NO SYMPATHY FOR SELF INFLICTED WOUNDS Hydrogen Peroxide lightens the dark hair prior to dying it a lighter color. `Take my advice, don`t miss any steps--to this day I can picture that horrible orange color of forty years ago, as clearly as if it was yesterday; I`ll never forget that one... I guess you could say she was one of the first punk rockers at that time.

Only hairwise though. She taught us how to limbo. I was so happy that I had already moved out on my own when I got my first and last afro.

What can I say, it was the seventies; everyone had them. But then again their were a lot of people in public with bald heads and `X`es carved into their foreheads. So I guess it could have been a whole lot worse.

To those who know about hair, an afro is supposed to have knots--not on my agenda they don’t. I combed out every single knot until it looked like a big ball of fluff on top of my head. My girlfriend was with me (she’s the one who talked me into it) and she got one as well.

It looked just as bad if not worse than mine. Her husband was pretty angry about the whole thing and wouldn’t let her go to get it fixed for a long time after. She picked up on a fashion trend at the time of wearing a head scarf.

As for me, I went looking to buy a straitener the following morning. There were kits to straighten hair or (maybe they only made it for botched perms), and even back then it was almost $50. On the shelf below were the perm kits for $5.

To me, it only makes sense that if you can use the stuff to curl your hair, you should be able to use it to straighten as well. Instead of putting the rollers in, just comb it out straight. Worked like a charm and saved me $45 and a lot more embarrassment.Snopes.

Yes you have to remove ALL the pigments from it and then go back through and add the desired shade of blonde. I strongly strongly suggest you go to a proffessional for this (its an intense process) and make sure to use a deep condtioner once a week to help your hair repair itself. I've done this before and if its done right it will turn out just fine..

Not directly That black dye is powerful, powerful stuff. It takes a lot of dye to make something black. You could repeatedly re-bleach it, but you'll do a LOT of damage to your hair in the process.

Better is to do it in stages. First, give it a few days, and some of the black dye will simply wash out of your hair when you shampoo. Then begin to lighten it with peroxide or other dye removers.(Check your hair products aisle for dye removers.) The color you get is not going to be an attractive one, so you're going to have to do this in stages.

Dye it another, darker color, such as a dirty blond or even brunette. The color won't look like the box, since it's mixing with the remnants of the black. Reds are a good color, too, since they make some striking mixes.

Something that will wash out easily. A few days or weeks later, you can strip out the new color and more of the black dye. That will get you closer to blonde.

You can try putting in a blonde coloring now, or you may have to repeat the red/brunette treatment again..
