(MORE) And when I say "too much in taxes" I mean that by paying taxes they are doing without the needs that they have (food, shelter, clothing). I hear a lot of people bitching about paying too much in taxes, and it mostly comes from the right, but seriously, can anyone actually back that up with real figures? Most people in this country have more disposable income after taxes and necessities than most people in the rest of the world make before taxes and needs.

Whenever the government wastes money or does things they shouldn't with our money, all taxpayers are paying too much.It is our money, we earned it and to think the government should force us to turn it over to them to waste is wrong.

4 >Yes, I have to agree with DM. There is this attitude among liberals that I hear time and time again, that if people have anything extra (whether it be money, food, a too big house, etc. ), that the government should take it and redistribute it. I mean, that is a Communist notion.
This country was founded under the principle that people could keep what they've earned and built. That's why people came here from all over the world! Other governments "take" the fruit of their citizens' labors.
Until recently, you could keep what you earned here. As for paying too much in taxes, the average middle class person is paying 50% of their earnings in taxes. Isn't that too much?
You have a tax rate of 35% (going up to 38% in January), you have SS and welfare tax of 7.65% (and if you're self-employed like I am, that is a tax of 15.3%). You have state income taxes in most states - California takes 10% right off the top. You have sales taxes of 3%-11% depending on where you live.
You have invisible taxes like the cigarette tax ($4.35 a pack in New York), and the gasoline tax of 18.4 cents a gallon federal and up to 37.5 cents a gallon in Washington state. If you own a house, you pay property taxes, but even if you rent, the landlord had to pay the tax, so your rent helps to cover that. If you have a telephone, look at the bill.
Half of my phone bill is taxes! So you tell me if we're not already paying too much taxes.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
