You should of waited till dark, when they all go into the nest then spray them with a foaming hornet spray..What you did was very dangerous, they could of come after you..Spray the pieces now with the foaming spray and leave it be for a few hrs.

Hot soapy water - as in boiling - with laundry detergent poured on it will probably knock 'em out so you can move them. Works on bees, should probably work on hornets as well. But - do it after dark when they're lethargic.

If you do it in the daytime, be prepared for a massive number of stings. Or better still, have a professional come out and take care of it.

I recommend against the foaming variety - I have never had good results from it.
