Just curious, how much time do you actually spend in the kitchen preparing family meals from scratch?

Okay, we're a "strange" family of 8, living in the country.... we do fast-food - once a month, take out - never, and restaurant - once or twice a month We cook 95% of our food from scratch (we live on a ranch / farm)... breakfast takes about 20-30 minutes each morning to prepare, lunch takes as little as 5 minutes if we're microwaving leftovers from dinner... or as much as 30 minutes if I'm making a fresh lunch or if I'm putting supper ingredients to marinate, supper takes about 30-60 minutes on average We also spent Saturday doing preparation for the weeks / months meals... making tomato sauce, making stock for use or freezing, making won tons, lumpia, or ravioli, making pasta or potato salads, roasting a few chickens or a beef / pork roast for later use... or if we're really planning... marinating meats for the week and then vacuum sealing them We DO keep a few canned staples (chili, corned beef hash, and stew) for emergencies, but I refuse to eat pre-made / boxed food Merry Christmas.

My 'family' of me and my bf eat out or order take-out about once a week, (more than I'd like). Probably only eat 'fast food' once a month though. Your other question's a little ambigious to me, because I use plenty of canned ingredients when I still consider it 'cooking from scratch'.

For instance, I will rarely soak my own dried beans; canned all the way. Same goes for tomatoes if I'm making pretty much anythign except a sammich or salad. Another exception is frozen peas and corn (impossible to get fresh except when in season here), but besides that, all of them are fresh, including potatoes. My meals take anywhere from 20min to 2 hours to make, but it usually lies around the 30-45min mark.

We eat pre-made meals probably 1.5 times a week, often because I will have eaten too much during the day and when bf comes home, and then he just cooks for himself. I find many prepackaged meals can take a lot of time anyways, and I'll only be saving about 10min using them. Plus they're expensive and full of stuff that I don't eat.

(I'm semi-vegetarian).

Whenever possible we cook from scratch. I try to plan ahead an make extra on Sunday to eat thru the week. Due to logistics and time we usually eat out a few times late in the week.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
