Keyboard events only trigger when the object they're assigned to are the current focus.

You can move the key handler from the avatar to the level or stage and then move your avatar in there.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
