Knitters, knitters, knitters, the question is why aren't you asking more questions?

Well..... I love knitting as you might have already guessed by my screen name. Lately I haven’t had much need for questions since the project I am working on is moving slowly (too slowly) and is just stockinette. Also I haven’t allowed myself to buy any more yarn since my stash is a bit larger than it should be.

I’ve basically told myself I can’t just keep buying yarn and not actually use it. So because of my current project and my moratorium on purchases, I haven’t needed to ask any questions. In the past when I have had questions, I’ve gone to Knitters Review Forum but honestly I haven’t posted anything there in several months.

Previously most of my questions have been to get opinions on yarns, online shops and books and of course I’ve asked questions about patterns and yarn substituting as well. Knitters Review Forum is great and has been an invaluable resource for me. Askville is wonderful but when it comes to knitting, Knitters Review Forum is better since it is dedicated to knitting. In the future though I will post my knitting questions on Askville as well since more advice is always great.

I've actually wondered this very thing myself... ...because it seems like we have a core group of some pretty active knitters here. So when I saw that you asked this question, I thought I’d come up with a few theories: 1) We are busy knitting! I have so many works in progress and in various stages of finishing that I’ve had to devise a complicated prioritization method. It involves my mood... phases of the moon... and whether or not chocolate is readily available.

2) We are caught up in the day to day details of our lives. You know... things like work. For some reason, when I sit at the computer, I am reminded of the bazillion nagging little tasks that a large corporate entity is waiting for me to get accomplished.

3) We are busy asking and answering questions about all kinds of other stuff that we didn't even know we were experts in until somebody wanted to know. 4)We just know we can find the most super-duper website to reference in our latest answer... but can’t quite remember the URL or how we found it the first time.. and so we embark on an internet search that leads us into a profoundly distracting labyrinth of really cool yarn and knitting sites we’ve never seen before. Next thing you know... it’s 3 a.m.

And we gotta get some sleep so we can get up and go to work. (See #2.) 5) We think of some knitting problem we have and get lost in how to frame the question. Some doo-hickies have no names... in trying to find the proper words to ask the proper questions, one can get caught up in the search.

(See #4) There is a lot of truth in my answer... as well as some rationalization. I can say I appreciate the influx of knitting questions lately... and I am having a great time here with all you folks on Askville. I will do my best to pose some questions for the rest of you to help me gain new perspectives.

Thanks for asking this question. :) .

Probably because I have more fun coming up with the answers I promise I will try to find a good question to ask the knitting community. After all, here I come every day trying to find questions about 1) knitting; 2) knitting patterns; 3) crochet (but I'm not quite as good at crochet than I am at knitting). I have been knitting for over 40 years - no, I'm not 90, only 50 - I learned to knit in elementary school.

I am one of those people who hide their yarn habit, which is really difficult since my stash keeps on growing and is now invading just about every room in our house. I feel lost if I don't have at least one project started, and go into a panic if I'm about to finish a project and don't have any idea what to knit next. For that reason, I started a knitting group at the hospital I work for, which is for children, and I also joined a charity group in my area, so I can always start a project such as hats for the babies and the chemo kids (these last I make with eyelash yarns in bright colors), shawls, scarves, Afghan squares... etc.I love knitting so much that it's always a pleasure to teach someone else or to help the askville community with free patterns and cheap-but-good-quality yarns.

I'll be thinking hard about a question to ask, promise... Sources: My experience as a crazy knitter .

I don't really have unanswered questions right now. Ok, I can think of one --possibly two-- questions to ask, but I usually can't even think of anything to ask if I really stretched it. I've been knitting for a long time and don't have a lot to ask.

Also, maybe the knitters are busy ---knitting! LOL! I'll go ask the questions I did come up with though and we'll see if I get answers or if they're all off knitting right now.

Cheers! Cyndy .

Knitting, knitting, knitting... It's winter, the days are short and I'm sitting in my comfy chair, tea cup close at hand, knitting my fingers to the bone. Basically, no time to think and ask questions about knitting. However, if anyone has any, let me know because I'd love to try to answer.

Knit two, purl two, etc. , working on an afghan at the moment, then a baby blanket, then finishing the two scarves I started before Christmas, then...

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
