Lance Armstrong named "Athlete of the Decade" - but did he deserve the title?

I personally feel that Lance deserve the award. S personal achievements and cycling achievements speaks volumes. I doubt any of us can walk in his shoes let alone ride in them.To my recollection there are not to many athletes that where diagnose with a life threatening disease recovered from it and then came out of retirement and finish third in their respective field.

Not even Usain Bolt records can beat that , this man is a champion. I think no other athlete deserved it but him.

Lance was a fantastic athlete. He overcame his struggles with cancer and is a true Iron Man! Perhaps never again will any athlete, let alone a cancer survivor, dominate the most grueling event in sports like he did.In winning seven consecutive Tours from 1999-2005, Armstrong not only made history, obliterating the previous record of five wins.

He also transformed cycling, gave a kiss of life to the legendary race that had nearly overdosed on drug scandals and raised the bar on the definition of being exceptional. However........................... I feel like the athlete of the decade should be Roger Federer. To start out, tennis is a far more popular sport than cycling. It is one of the most popular sports around the globe besides soccer.

And Roger Federer has had by far the most dominant decade ever. He has won close to 60% of the grand slams this decade. And he was the number one player in the world for more than 4 years!

Sure, Armstrong has won the Tour de France 5 times in a row this decade. But that is still just one event. It cannot be compared with Federer's long run of dominance time and times again, at the US Open, Australian Open, French, and Wimbeldon, as well as various 2nd and third tier tournaments, year in and year out.

Roger's dominance in his sport is unprecedented, and because of Roger's achievements and the popularity and prestige of tennis, I would have to say that the athlete of the decade for the 2000's should have been Roger Federer.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
