This really depends on what you are trying to get to the top of the SERP's... There are different approaches for websites, individual webpages, articles, blogs, individual blog posts, etc. Etc. Etc... But I'll give some general tips that can be applied more or less across the board, although how they are applied differs greatly depending on which of the above list you are working with.No particular order... *Meta tags - although the keyword tag is not really used by Google, it still is by some others, and title and description tags are important across the board. They should contain the keyword phrase targeted, preferably at the beginning.
(and yes, even Mahalo pages use them and you can control title and description, and blogs often have SEO plugins you can use) *Consistent changes over time - Overhauling a website/page/etc.All at once can actually cause you to drop out of the rankings altogether until the SE's are sure you still have quality content. However, making smaller changes on a consistent basis shows you have an active website with fresh information. SE's like that.
*Incoming links - the more the better **as long as they are from decent websites**. Related sites are even better. For instance, I added a page about a health book to one of my websites... then I added a page about the same book to several other websites, then linked them using a system of linking that didn't just link every page to every page... and linked them from existing pages on those and other health sites.
Several of the pages went to the top 5 positions in Google, Yahoo, and MSN (pre-Bing) and stayed in the top 10 for several months. (I avoided the sandbox using my other tips here and a couple more. ) =) Oh, did I say I started making sales SIX DAYS after I made the first page?
=) (This was before social bookmarking... now if done correctly you can sometimes get it much faster. ) Word of caution: do not solicit links from just anywhere... if banned sites link to you, you can also get de-listed, if not banned. *Use related keywords in the page you are working on getting ranked.
If you only use "widgets" all over your page, and nothing else, you could be seen as spamming the term if you have it too many times, or at the very least, not an authority site on widgets. However, if you talk about "widget accessories", "different sizes or brands of widgets", "travel widgets", etc... you show you care about providing more information about the total "widget experience". This is especially important to Google.
*Outgoing links - You might be thinking, "What! I don't want them leaving my page, they need to (buy from me, click my ads, fill in the blank)! " Let me explain... Link to related websites... and even the top couple of authority sites in your topic.
One more incoming link to "Widgets R Us" is not going to significantly impact their rating, but showing that you want to give the best visitor experience, even if it takes them off your site gives authority to your page/post/site/etc. That one link can mean the world of difference to your position. Just make sure it opens in a new window so they get the information but don't actually leave your site. =) So... that's 5.
Any more than that, come visit my weekly SEO thread here and ask me a question. =D.
From my experience, and not necessarily in any particular order: #1 Content, Content, Content #2 Keywords - Good keywords, not keyword stuffing #3 SEO - Google AdWords, etc #4 Images - Embed keyword rich captions into your images #5 Links - Link to sites with higher page ranks, and try to get them to link back. This is only a small part of attaining a good page rank. It's worked for me so far :-).
I agree with all of the above, but one thing I have learned by experience is if you are one of the first to have content about a topic, you will garner good ratings, but not necessarily a lot of traffic. The challenge is then having the best content as others enter the foray. If you have content about a topic that is covered heavily in other places, you must do all of the above and have the absolute best content. It helps if Mahalo has many pages related to your topic that all have good content too.
I have found blog, tweet and Mahalo Answers responses helped my sewing and quilting pages.
1. Have Great ORIGINAL Content that you regularly add to. Dynamic sites are loved by spiders.2.
Use keyword density in certain a-rticles on your site, especially the main page. 3. Make titles of pages and articles have the keyword first.4. Get relevant links back to your site through either the use of niche specific forums, 'opedia sites (do not abuse, but if you have relevant things on your site, it's ok) or a blogging service.5.
Create a usable website that people will frequent, link to, and recommend. Now here are five Don'ts to add to my do's.1.Do not get farmed content, copied content, or stagnant content. Don't plagiarize or use a content scramble system to beat the antiplagiarism programs.
You can get your site ignored or worse, banned.2. Don't keyword spam. Making a list of nonsense is just that, and it won't get you very far.3.
Don't make your pages vague or ecclectic unless they are a personal journal that you don't care about the SEO results.4. Don't go to link farms to get your site connected. Irrelevant links, links at link farms, links that have adulty links on the same page, and even link spamming can get you ignored, sandboxed, penalized, or banned.5.
If you're making a site just to get good rank, there is money in that, but a clever writer can help you disguise your rank-hungry site for one that is actually interesting to use. If your site is going to be in English, Don't hire non-native speakers to write, no matter how cheap they can offer. Well written sites have staying power and are more valuable in the long run than something put together simply with monetizing in mind.
I have answered a few SEO questions as of late..but you ask for 5 ways...so here goes: 1. Title of your post/writing. 2.
Content of your post/writing. 3. Links within your post/writing to popular sites on the same topic.4.
Images 5. Video Quick and dirty response....but that is what works. Content is king for ranking.

From my experience on Mahalo, I'd say the following are the most important here for ranking... 1) Topic selection - Mahalo Authority A topic on which Mahalo is considered a "go to" site by Google or by visitors has a much better chance of ranking well than one that isn't. People say content is king? Well from my experience of pages, both my own and other people's, it's clear that you can rank well here with a horrible stub page on many a videogame or deals related topic, while failing to get any rank at all for a superb page on for example a science or business topic.2) Topic selection - Competition The more and the better pages there are out there on the web for the given topic, the harder it will be to get a good rank for your page. It's pretty hard to get a good rank for a page like How to Play Poker, however good it is, because it's well covered by many big sites.
It's easier to get rank for a topic like How to Play Omaha. But of course, a lot fewer people search for that topic. Bottom line... there are some pretty low quality pages here with very little content that actually rank well, and make money, just because of the niche selected.
Not my kind of thing, but you wanted the truth right? Now note... I'm saying the most important factors that affect your ranking come into play before you've even made the page! Whatever you do on the page, and whatever you do aftwerwards in terms of marketing it are secondary to that.
3) Deep and good content This only matters if your topic selection was good.Repeat... write deep and good content on the wrong topic, and it will get you nowhere very much! Content is not King! A Duke maybe, or an Earl, pretty aristocratic perhaps, but not the Top Banana.
:) However, if your topic was viable in the first place, deep and good content can produce surprising results. I manage a page on http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-use-paypal-basics-and-beyond How to Use Paypal that outranks Paypal! And one on How to Use Command Prompt that is only beaten by Microsoft.
Who'da thunk? Not me anyway, until I saw it with my own eyes. Btw, as far as I can tell, those rankings are not the product of heavy marketing, just extensive and good content.
Google doesn't report any inbound links to those pages. 4) Inbound links In my experience, a few inbound links from blogs and social bookmarking sites seem to give a healthy boost to a page's ranking, especially if it was a more niche topic for which there wasn't so much competition.5) Regular Updates Depending on just how big or small an edge the page has over its competition, even a good ranking can start to slip. Some kind of regular updates should help to stop or slow that.
However in my experience if a page is awesome and comprehensive, and the topic is a pretty static one, it can stay at #1 without too much attention Conclusion Those are the top five factors determining page rank here, based on my experience. YMMV, and the conventional wisdom seems to be a little bit different, but that's what I personally have found.

A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
