Looking for an antenna shaman?

If you are behind the ridge, you are receiving the signal in shadow. Yagi antenna is highly directional, polarized and might have strong back and side lobes. That is not a good antenna for receiving signal in shade.

You might try to direct the Yagi antenna away from transmitter in order to receive signal reflected of an building, tower or a hill. It might work, but I doubt it, because digital signal might be impossible do decode if reflections are mixed in signal. The fact that rabbit ears antenna gives better signal shows that you need an antenna with less directional main lobe.It is probably picking up signal scattered by the ridge better than highly directional polarized Yagi.

You should probably try loop antenna (with half-wave balun) or a biquad (with and without reflector). Those two are easy to make out of copper wire and are cheap for the experiments. About amplifiers.

There are two kinds of amplifiers: the low noise kind, and the other kind that can handle powerful input signals. You should stick with the first kind as you have weak signal. There is no need for the other kind of amplifier unless you run very long cables.

Note low noise amplifiers are sensitive to RF noise, sometimes even if the noise is outside of the receiving band. Signal meter will show you strength of a signal, but will not show the amount received reflections in signals (ghosts). Good antenna shaman uses at least two types of antenna mounted on a pole.

He walks the roof holding the Staff of Reception in one hand and coil of cable in the other hand while yelling at someone in the house below.

Happy roof dancing.

Skin 3 goats, paint a rock to look like bill clinton and scream at it for 4 days while painted head to toe in woad- then drink the curdled blood of a gypsy. Then get cable. Have you checked the composition of the ridge?

Maybe a large metallic deposit is causing interference within a specific frequency range? And have you tried relocating the yagi? Maybe try a different antenna configuration, like a parabolic antenna. At the very least it might help pinpoint the source of the interference.

From what your describing I would be looking for an inteference sourse possibly within the house itself. Also have you said the tv upstair with the rabbit ears gets a better signal have you tried brining it down stair and seeing if it still work as it may be an issue with the tv.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
