I love this idea. Local fairs and even tech conferences @lon and/or @Jason attend should be fair game also.
I'm going to go against the grain on this one Dave and say no, I do not think this is a good idea. Why? I think having people log in and check it out makes us look cheap and 'gamey' They won't get a reply straight away, and even if they come back later, I think it would be easy to misinterpret the reason the site exists.
It's not to ask inane questions like "how big is my c***? " which I can see flooding the site if you have it at fairs and markets. And honestly are they going to sit a read through Answers Help pages?
Are they going to look around before jumping in with answers or just post things like "Where's the hotdog stand? " Are people really going to listen to someone preach about a website that appears not to answer their just posted question? To the uninitiated the site appears to be very like Answers.com but in reality it is much much more....the only impression we'll be giving them is its just like all those other answer sites .... its only *after* being here a while people/users/members realise the value.
I think having 100s of people jump on and trash the site is a waste of good time and money. If you want to show Mahalo it should be done at a tech fair at the very most. And even then I'm not convinced the site would come off looking and acting the way it should.
Mahalo is far more complex than that and I don't believe a quick tour by hundreds of people with sticky fingers and screaming kids is going to do one bit of good...... And this folks...is my 1000 answer! Yahoo! Yippy and yaay!
.It will be a great idea after Mahalo has settled some of its problems. Having an exposure is a good thing only if you have all the good things to show and not many bad things to show. Hopefully this is not too harsh.. May need to prepare for some questions like: 1.
So many "bad" questions? I must not let my kid uses this. 2.
Questions take so long to be answered? 3. Wow, the profile page seems cool, but wait, how come I can't check this and that and these and those are wrong?
4. Wow, I can earn some M$ here, but wait, how come this post says min payout is changed from $40 to $150, M$ system can any time changed and not cashable... and everything is evolving..? 5. Wow, cool.. a friendly community, but wait, how come so many grievances here and there?
6. Wow, it has a search page.. let me try.. how come the page is so outdated? 7.
Wow, I can get info by putting a tipped question.. but wait, how come this post says I lose the right to choose best answer after 3 days? 8. Wow, cool..community can vote on best answer.. but wait, this answer seems to be OK, how come it is a NBA?
You mean I may spend some time writing a good answer and still get NBA due to asker doesn't select BA and nobody votes? Etc......
They'll ask a question, wait a minute or two, get no response, and move on. Marketing Mahalo should use more technological means. Webinars, livestreams.
Create a facebook event and promise the first 100 people a decent giveaway item. They attend from their homes, learn about the platform, ask their first questions, and they're well on their way. The best part is that the people who missed out on the giveaway will be in line early for the next event.
Wow, that's a good idea, @davepamn. I think it will click, I'm sure people will be interested and try. It will give Mahalo more exposure, we know it is already famous and this kind of ideas won't hurt to try.
Your idea is definitely good and seems fun and helpful.
I like the idea but the problem is, the fair is too fast paced. People don't want to ask a question and wait. They'd have to come back later but then they'd forget or come back with cotton candy and food all over their hands.
I think that would be a great idea! Having people try it is the best way to market something like this service. I also think Mahalo should get a flash mob going somewhere like Times Square, The Kodak theater or some other popular place.
T-mobile and Trident have already done it.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
