Making pet expenses tax deductible?

"U.S. Representative Thaddeus McCotter has introduced the Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years (“HAPPY”) Act, legislation to allow individuals to claim tax deductions for qualified pet care expenses. The bill would allow any taxpayer who legally owns one or more domesticated animals to take an annual income tax deduction of up to $3,500 for pet care expenses, including veterinary care costs." What do you think of this idea?

I think the folks in our government have a zillion costly ways to be popular with voters and zero ways to pay the costs. I'm inclined to think that this is a sop tossed to a segment of voters, and by "sop" I mean that he doesn't actually expect it to get passed, but he can still go to the voters with, "I tried, but they shot it down. " Unfortunately, our politicians are elected on the basis of what they appear to do, not on the basis of who they really are; they get votes for appearances, not sincerity..

2 The Rocketeer had a question posted about this a few weeks ago. I think it is a wonderful idea! It would help the animals, as more people would spay/neuter, get vaccinations and necessary vet care.It would also help rescuers like me, who already spend a lot of money on vet care.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
