Normally Germany won't grant you citizenship unless you renounce your American. But there are exceptions. If renouncing your Amrican citizenship means an unbearable hardship (financially, diffucult or almost impossible to renounce etc.) for you you can keep both citizenships.
Also possible: Renounce the American one, get the German one and re-apply for the American one. Check before with the American authorities if it is easily possible to get it back. In that case you can keep the German citizenship together with the new American one.
Many people from Turkish origin but born in Germany did it that way. But better check with a lawyer once time has come. Normally you need to live in Germany for at least 8 years before you can apply.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
