Well, most of open source java project use Maven, but I think SVN is more popular. If you are looking for other examples (might be svn) look at mz previous question To find test project go to SourceForge. I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
