Well, most of open source java project use Maven, but I think SVN is more popular. If you are looking for other examples (might be svn) look at mz previous question To find test project go to SourceForge. Net, search for java projects, choose project and then open Develop tab like in this There is high probability that project you choose is build by Maven.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
